AI-Driven Hiring: Reshaping Recruitment Realities

Applying for a job can be a stressful process. Interviewing, resume writing, and even searching for the perfect job can add layers upon layers of stress for the applicant. Additionally, it is hard to know the screening process that leads to rejection or acceptance due to the ambiguity and uniqueness of each company and its Human Resources department. The pressure, stress, and confusion that come with recruiting and job applications can be sustained through AI.

Generative AI can help both recruiters and applicants throughout the hiring process. AI can help reduce the costs that go into HR and optimize efficiency. Although ultimately, a human must decide on whether or not to hire or even interview an applicant, AI automation can help speed up this process. According to the Forbes article “How The Use Of AI In Recruiting Will Impact Your Job Search”, around 75% of applicants don’t meet the minimum qualifications that the job requires and are therefore ineligible. Sorting through numerous applications that will be automatically rejected takes up time and resources.

Job applicants will reap benefits as well from the implementation of enhanced AI in the recruitment process. By using AI to sort out applicants and identify their strengths to match them with the job, recruiters can even help rejected candidates by matching them with a better-suited position or generating feedback through AI that can provide an explanation and direction for their future regarding job searches. Real-time feedback is something currently lacking in the job industry and overall efficiency resulting from AI will lead to effectiveness and increased production for applicants as well. AI can also help reduce or even eliminate bias from the revision process. Although many efforts are put into reducing subjectivity in the hiring process, it is still a prevalent issue that may prevent and hinder candidates' chances for certain jobs. Generative AI eliminates that natural human judgment and gives fair chances regarding the job requirements. According to Forbes, across many businesses, even well-developed and well-funded ones, a lot of “guesswork” goes into the hiring process. Therefore, accurate predictive data generated by AI will help eliminate that.

Alongside streamlining and increasing efficiency in the hiring and interview stages, AI can help the recruiting process as well. According to the Forbes article “How AI Is Primed To Disrupt HR And Recruiting”, once the requirements for the position have been identified and listed by the company, AI can create customized advertisements specifically for hand-picked candidates that match those requirements. This increases that layer of efficiency and eliminates many of the unqualified candidates depending on the position.

Ultimately, there still needs to be that “human” layer of Human Resources who leading the hiring and recruiting process to monitor AI and ensure it is functioning properly. AI can be very straightforward and not consider many aspects of a person that aren’t included in a physical written application. According to Forbes, to maintain fairness and diversity, AI needs to be closely watched to ensure that all datasets and data items are being treated fairly. This may mean some generative AI technologies like video-recorded interviews may lead to bias and have to be reviewed by a human. Yet this is important for keeping the integrity of the company and ensures that recruiters and interviewers are still needed despite the undeniable rise of technology and AI.
